Product and application brief
Set screws are specified around the point that contacts or locates against the mating component. Thread diameter and length are not enough to distinguish flat, cup, cone or dog-point requirements. Provide the approved joint drawing rather than selecting a point from appearance alone.
Point construction
Identify the specified flat, cup, cone or dog point and include its required geometry. A dog point has a defined projection; a cup point has a different contact arrangement. Keep each construction as a separate line item.
Drive and overall dimensions
State the drive, thread, length and measurement convention. Include protruding-point dimensions where required and any special end or recess detail. Headless socket set screws are a common form, but a head or drive requirement must still be explicit.
Mating surface and acceptance
Provide the mating feature, intended locating or retention arrangement and permitted surface effects. Final suitability and installation requirements follow the responsible designer or approved assembly specification; no holding-force value is inferred here.
Specification checklist for quotation
Provide the required specification and quantity with units. These inputs are not a guaranteed stock range or a product approval.
| Requirement | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Product / point | Exact standard or drawing and point style with dimensions |
| Drive | Specified internal or external drive and recess details |
| Thread / length | Thread system, size, pitch, tolerance and overall length convention |
| Mating feature | Controlled mating drawing and contact or locating requirements |
| Material / finish | Specified properties, surface condition and acceptance criteria |
| Order | Quantity with units by point/size, inspection and packing requirements |
Common purchasing questions
Can a cup point replace a flat point?
Not without checking and approving the mating requirements. Point geometry changes the contact arrangement, so list the selected point explicitly.
Can a photograph prove holding capacity?
No. Holding or retention performance depends on the complete approved assembly and its verification. An appearance image is not test evidence.
Prepare your order brief
Attach the complete product reference or a controlled drawing with revision. List quantities and units for each size, material and finish; include the destination, packing and document requirements. Mark missing or unresolved items for review. Supply scope and any exceptions are confirmed for the actual quotation.
