What to send for quotation
A useful screw enquiry identifies both the purchased part and its mating connection. Use a controlled standard or drawing as the reference, and separate confirmed requirements from questions that still need review.
1. Identify the screw construction
Name machine, socket, set, self-tapping, wood or drywall screw. For a drill-point design, use the self-drilling category and its dedicated checklist. Include drawing number/revision or the exact standard and edition; do not assume two standards are equivalent.
2. Separate head, drive and point
Record these as different fields. Include head dimensions, drive size and point details where specified. A familiar trade name is useful for searching but should not replace a drawing-defined requirement.
3. Make length and thread unambiguous
State the diameter, pitch or threads per inch, units, length convention, threaded length and specified thread fit. Mark whether the drawing measures from under the head or includes the head; do not silently apply one convention to every head type.
4. Define the mating connection
Provide tapped-thread or nut details, or substrate and approved hole preparation for a self-tapping connection. Include thickness and access constraints. Hole and installation settings must come from the selected design, not a general website table.
5. Close the quotation brief
List material, required properties, finish, quantity by size, inspection criteria, documents, packing and destination. State any sample or drawing approval needed before production, and require proposed substitutions to be listed separately.
Quotation information checklist
These fields describe order inputs, not a stock table or engineered acceptance criteria.
| Requirement | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Reference | Type, standard/edition or drawing/revision |
| Part | Head, drive, point, diameter and length convention |
| Thread | System, pitch/TPI, fit, direction and threaded length |
| Assembly | Mating part, substrate/thickness and approved hole preparation |
| Acceptance | Material/finish, inspection criteria, documents and approval points |
| Commercial | Quantities, packing, destination and open questions |
Example enquiry brief
Replace the bracketed fields with approved requirements and flag any unresolved item.
Screw type: [type]; drawing/standard: [reference and revision]; head/drive/point: [requirements]; thread: [system, diameter, pitch/TPI, fit]; length: [dimension and convention]; mating component: [drawing/material/thickness]; material/finish: [requirements]; quantity: [by size]; inspection/packing/destination: [requirements]; unresolved items: [list].
MOQ, production timing, material availability, finish and inspection scope are confirmed for the final specification. Product images illustrate appearance only; they do not establish dimensions, approvals or load ratings.
