Product and application brief
A blind rivet stud adds an external mating thread to a selected thin-walled component through a riveted attachment body. Unlike a blind rivet nut, the mating feature is male rather than female. The attachment is also different from a welded or self-clinching stud. Identify the complete part and host interface, not only the thread size.
Construction choices
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Body and receiving hole | Identify round or other selected body geometry and the corresponding hole drawing. Do not transfer a rivet-nut body range to every stud variant. |
| Head and thread projection | Specify seating-head geometry and usable external thread projection separately from body length and blind-side clearance. |
| Grip stack | Record the actual total host stack, materials, finishes and selected part grip range; identify whether one or several layers are involved. |
| Special sealed construction | Böllhoff identifies dedicated Seal Ring nut and stud examples. Sealing is a selected construction, not a property of every blind rivet stud. |
Male thread and riveting interface
Specify the external thread system, diameter, pitch, fit and mating nut separately from crimp-body geometry. Böllhoff distinguishes reusable male and female thread routes and a crimping attachment mechanism. An ordinary threaded rod does not provide this attachment body.
Set the host and clearance requirements
Provide host material and thickness, receiving-hole shape and tolerances, edge distances, seating face and installation access. Include blind-side space and installed projection from the selected drawing. Thread diameter alone does not establish the host hole or grip range.
Identify the complete setting system
Provide the selected supplier installation reference, tool interface and acceptance requirements for the actual stud. Rivet-nut setting hardware is not automatically compatible with a male-thread stud. No universal setting force, stroke, drill size or tool compatibility is provided here.
Prepositioning is an application context
Böllhoff describes blind rivet studs for prepositioning screw-on components. This is a structural distinction and application context, not a FastenerBridge load rating, structural approval or permission to use the component for lifting.
Keep alternatives distinct
A self-clinching stud depends on a compatible sheet and clinching interface; a weld stud depends on its weld-end construction and selected process. Similar external threads do not make these attachment routes interchangeable.
Qualification and supply remain order-specific
State the exact part reference or controlled drawing revision, material and coating, mating parts, required tests, inspection evidence, quantities and destination. No brand affiliation, stock, strength class, corrosion rating, sealing rating or certification is claimed for a supplied part.
Specification fields
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Identity | Blind rivet stud reference or drawing/revision, body/head variant and any specifically selected seal. |
| External thread | System, diameter, pitch/TPI, fit, hand, usable projection and mating-nut reference. |
| Host and grip | Actual material/stack thickness, hole shape and controlled dimensions, seating face, edge and blind-side clearances; selected grip range. |
| Setting and acceptance | Exact tool/interface and controlled installation reference; installed projection, inspection method and required evidence. |
| Order | Material/finish requirements, component supply scope, quantity and units, packing, destination and requested date. |
Common product questions
Is a blind rivet stud just a rivet nut with another name?
No. The stud provides an external mating thread; the nut provides an internal thread.
Can it replace a weld or self-clinching stud by thread size alone?
No. The host attachment, hole preparation, clearance and qualification differ.
Does every blind rivet stud provide sealing?
No. A sealed version requires its own identified construction and acceptance requirements.
