Lifting Hooks

Identify hook connection ends, throat and latch construction, positioning versus operating rotation, and exact-product documentation for an enquiry.

Hook construction is not a lifting approval

A hook has a curved body, saddle and throat through which a specified mating connection is received. Identify the actual hook model or controlled drawing and intended service. An open hook form, fitted latch or similar silhouette does not establish working load, lifting suitability or certification. Supply scope requires order-specific confirmation.

Connection end and closure are separate choices

Construction fieldWhat distinguishes the enquiry
Closed-eye endThe connection opening and section are integral to the hook end. The maker example S-315A identifies an eye chain hook with integrated latch; it is not an externally threaded eye bolt.
Clevis endA forked connection has ears, a joining pin and the selected retention arrangement. S-314A is a distinct maker clevis-chain-hook example, not an interchangeable name for the eye construction.
Shank or swivel endShank mounting and a designed swivel assembly are different interfaces. Identify mounting, retention and the complete selected assembly; do not infer internal bearings from appearance.
Latch, gate or locking mechanismSpecify exact closure construction and replacement-component reference. A hinged latch shown in the illustration is not evidence of positive self-locking operation. Catalogue BL variants distinguish self-closing and manual-closing gates; their model permissions are not generic.

Positioning versus rotation during operation

The original maker catalogue distinguishes BKL positioning hooks from separate BKLK bearing constructions. State whether alignment before loading or movement during operation is required, and obtain instructions for the exact ordered product. Do not transfer a bearing model's operating permission to an unverified swivel hook or an inline swivel connector.

Specify the complete mating interface

Provide eye opening and section, or clevis opening, pin and retention details; throat opening, saddle geometry and drawing-defined length datums. Identify the mating chain, sling, connector or mounting assembly with its controlled reference. Matching a nominal size alone is not compatibility evidence.

Drawing and order brief

RequirementProvide for review
Identity and useExact maker model or controlled drawing/revision; requested standard and edition, intended application and unresolved requirements.
End and closureEye, clevis, shank or specified swivel end; pin/retention and latch/gate/locking construction, complete or replacement component.
GeometryConnection clearances, throat/saddle, dimensions, units and tolerances from the selected drawing, plus mating-component reference.
Movement and documentationRequired positioning or operating movement; exact product instructions and application-specific qualification, inspection and traceability requirements.
OrderSpecified material/finish, quantity and unit, destination, assembly contents and required documents; commercial facts confirmed in quotation.

Standards and evidence boundaries

ASME publishes B30.10-2024 as Hooks. This safety-scope identity is not a dimension table or a FastenerBridge compliance statement. No universal WLL, safety factor, torque, allowable direction, installation recipe or replacement threshold is prescribed here. Actual lifting use requires the exact approved component and complete application documentation; manufacturer ratings and test statements are not transferred to this enquiry page.
