Master Links & Assemblies

Distinguish a closed single master link from a top-link and sublink assembly; specify mating clearances, sling arrangement and controlled documents.

Single link or complete assembly?

A master link is a closed collecting link at the upper connection of a specified rigging arrangement. A master-link assembly combines a larger top link with smaller sublinks. These are different enquiry identities from removable two-half chain couplings, shackles with pins and inline swivel connectors. A similar outline does not establish interchangeability, a load rating or supply qualification.

Read the construction before selecting

ConstructionIdentify for review
Single closed master linkOne continuous oblong loop. Provide the controlled inner opening, section and mating-component drawing; nominal chain size alone does not establish fit.
Top link with two sublinksA larger closed top link and two separate smaller closed links interlinked through its lower portion. Specify the complete assembly and connection arrangement rather than buying three independent loops from appearance.
Product-specific detailsForged or welded construction, identification and any engineered flat must follow the selected drawing and product documentation. A flat shown on one maker family is not universal.

Mating fit and sling arrangement

Identify the receiving hook or connector and its controlled interface, available clearance, section and seating arrangement. Provide the required number and arrangement of connections below the top link and sublinks. Link count is not a universal permission for a particular number of sling legs or a particular chain family. Do not assign a working-load limit by silhouette, nominal diameter or the sum of individual component ratings.

A removable chain coupling can be assembled at a defined joint; a closed master link does not have that removable pin mechanism. Any joining, welding, component substitution or alteration must be addressed by the approved complete-system documentation, not improvised from this page.

Drawing and enquiry fields

RequirementProvide for review
IdentitySingle link or complete assembly, selected reference or drawing/revision, intended service and required standard/edition.
GeometryInner opening, link section, assembly envelope and any special interface from the drawing, with units and tolerances.
Mating partsReceiving hook/connector and lower connecting-component references or controlled drawings, including required clearances.
ArrangementTop-link and sublink configuration, intended sling connections and exact-system application documents.
RecordsRequired identification, inspection, traceability and qualification documents; supplied status needs order-specific confirmation.
OrderSpecified material and finish, quantity/unit, destination and quotation requirements; distinguish requested facts from confirmed supply scope.

Standard scope is not product approval

ASME B30.26-2026 identifies rigging hardware and includes links and rings in its stated scope. This does not supply a dimensional standard or prove FastenerBridge conformity. This generic enquiry page assigns no WLL, proof load, design factor, fatigue classification, grade, temperature limit or installation permission. Actual selection and use require the exact approved assembly, current instructions and application-specific documentation.
