Product and application brief
A chain connecting link joins a chain end to another specified component through a mechanically assembled coupling. Select the complete connection, not just an approximate oval shape or chain diameter. This page focuses on removable coupling structures; a fixed master link, threaded quick link, shackle or inline swivel is a different construction.
Product forms and reference names
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Two-part coupling construction | Identify the two body halves, joining pin and specified retention parts as one complete assembly. A controlled drawing must show the opening and the mating chain or eye. |
| RUD VIP VVS reference family | The manufacturer's VVS instructions illustrate two bow parts joined by a pin and secured with separate sleeve pins. VVS size codes identify that maker's family, not a globally interchangeable dimensional standard. |
| Standard or drawing-based requirement | Specify the selected coupling reference and chain system or an approved controlled drawing. DIN EN 1677-1 identifies forged sling components, Grade 8; its title alone does not approve a different grade or establish our product conformity. |
Chain diameter and system identity
Provide nominal chain diameter together with the exact chain designation and selected component system. The grade, link geometry and manufacturer's compatibility requirements are separate fields. Matching one diameter does not establish interchangeability between different makers or grades.
Openings and mating components
Identify the chain end and opposite eye or component separately. Record clear openings, body section and envelope dimensions with units against the selected drawing. A master link collects connections; it is not automatically the same part as a removable coupling.
Joining pin and retention are separate
Specify the complete retention arrangement and included parts. A joining pin is not necessarily self-retaining. Do not substitute a generic bolt, pin or sleeve based on appearance. Follow the exact component instructions rather than an illustrated generic assembly.
Lifting requirements need actual documents
The reference page identifies structure, not a lifting rating or an installation procedure. Require the actual component drawing, compatible-chain information and applicable inspection or approval records for the intended use. No universal capacity, tightening value, temperature or reuse interval is asserted.
Specification fields
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Maker family and exact size/part reference, or controlled drawing with revision; required standard and edition. |
| Chain and mating part | Chain designation, grade/system and nominal diameter; drawing or reference of the opposite eye or component. |
| Coupling geometry | Body halves, clear openings, section and overall envelope; units and controlled tolerances. |
| Assembly contents | Joining pin plus exact retaining components; define a complete assembly versus separately ordered parts. |
| Intended use and records | Connection purpose, applicable product instructions and required inspection/traceability documents; flag unresolved requirements. |
| Material, finish and quantity | Required material/finish and quantity in complete assemblies or identified individual parts. |
Common product questions
Is a coupling link the same as a master link?
No. A master link and a mechanically assembled chain coupling have different connection roles and constructions. Specify the required part rather than selecting by shape alone.
Does matching chain diameter prove compatibility?
No. Chain system, component design and the applicable manufacturer's requirements must also match. This page does not certify interchangeability.
Does the joining pin replace all retention parts?
Not necessarily. The verified VVS example has a joining pin and separate securing pins. Specify the complete arrangement for the selected product; the example is not a generic installation instruction.
