Product and application brief
An inline swivel connector joins two connection ends through a rotating joint. It is not the same part as a fixed eye bolt or eye nut. End shape, internal construction and permitted operating movement identify the selected product; a swivel-looking joint alone does not establish lifting suitability.
Product forms and reference names
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Eye-and-eye positioning swivel | Crosby identifies G-402 as a regular forged swivel. The selected maker drawing defines the two eyes and the rotating connection; this model name is a third-party identification example, not our brand or conformity claim. |
| Jaw-end positioning swivel | Crosby identifies G-403 as a jaw-end forged swivel. A jaw connection needs its opening, pin geometry and retention arrangement specified, rather than an eye diameter alone. |
| Bearing swivel configurations | The separate Crosby bearing-swivel catalogue identifies S-1 jaw-and-hook, S-2 jaw-and-jaw and S-3 jaw-and-eye forms. These are distinct model constructions, not interchangeable suffixes for a generic forged swivel. |
Positioning and operating rotation are different
Crosby's forged-swivel catalogue limits its 402/403 examples to positioning, while its separate tapered-roller-bearing family addresses loaded rotation. Do not transfer the latter permission to an unverified generic swivel. State whether movement is needed before loading or during operation, and require instructions for the exact selected component.
Connection ends and fit
Identify both ends separately: closed-eye opening and section, or jaw opening, pin diameter, usable engagement and retention details. Overall length is a different field from eye opening or jaw clearance. Include the mating connector drawing; matching one nominal size is not proof of compatible geometry.
Joint construction and complete assembly
Specify the required swivel construction and controlled drawing, including bearing arrangement where applicable. Identify supplied pins and their retention parts as an assembly. A generic reference illustration does not reveal internal bearing design, inspection status or maintenance requirements.
Rigging standard scope is not a product dimension table
ASME describes B30.26 as a rigging-hardware standard whose scope includes swivels. A scope reference does not establish dimensions, certification or our product compliance. The ordered model and applicable documentation must establish permitted use; no universal load, torque, rotation, temperature or reuse value is supplied here.
Specification fields
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Exact identity | Maker model or controlled drawing and revision; requested standard and edition where applicable. |
| Ends A and B | Eye-and-eye, jaw-and-eye, jaw-and-jaw or other selected configuration; identify each mating component. |
| Connection geometry | Eye clear opening/section, jaw clearance, pin geometry/retention and overall length, with units and required tolerances. |
| Movement requirement | Positioning before loading versus rotation during operation; require exact product instructions, not a generic assumption. |
| Assembly and documentation | Drawing, included pins/retainers, inspection and traceability requirements; for load handling, the applicable approved component documentation. |
| Material, finish and quantity | Required material/finish and quantity in pieces or complete assemblies; clearly flag unresolved requirements. |
Common product questions
Does every swivel rotate under load?
No. The verified manufacturer examples distinguish positioning swivels from a separate bearing family. The required operating movement must be supported by instructions for the exact product.
Is a swivel connector the same as an eye nut?
No. A fixed eye nut connects through an internal thread; an inline swivel connector joins its end fittings through a rotating joint.
Are G-402, G-403 and S-series names global interchangeable standards?
No. These are manufacturer reference examples with different constructions. Provide the exact selected reference or controlled drawing; this page does not claim equivalence or our conformity.
