Distinguish drilling from tapping
Identify whether a drill-point screw is required. Self-drilling and self-tapping are related terms, but not a sufficient interchangeable product description. Attach the specified part drawing when the terminology in an existing parts list is unclear.
Describe sheet and support
Provide the connected sheet stack and the supporting-member material and thickness. Required screw length and drill-point capacity are different requirements. The selected product's documented capacity must match the connection.
Specify head, thread and washer
List head / drive form, diameter, length and thread requirement. For roofing enquiries, include washer diameter, backing material and specified seal material, such as EPDM where required. Identify colour requirements separately.
Name the construction precisely
Specify the required body alloy and drill-point construction. Some stainless products use a hardened steel point, so stainless alone does not define the full screw. Material selection also needs the intended exposure conditions.
Agree testing and installation
Send roof-system or other application-specific requirements, required reports and approved installation instructions. Product-family descriptions do not guarantee drilling performance or a weather-tight installed roof.
Example enquiry structure
Replace the bracketed fields with your approved requirements. This is an order-brief format, not a stock offer or design recommendation.
Head / drive: [form]; diameter and length: [dimensions]; sheet and support: [materials / thickness]; point capacity: [requirement]; body / point construction: [specification]; washer / finish: [requirement]; quantity: [pieces].
