What to send for quotation
A useful retaining-ring enquiry identifies both the purchased ring and the mating assembly. Send the controlled ring reference and shaft or housing drawing; do not infer groove dimensions or load capability from a ring photograph.
1. Separate shaft and housing use
Identify external shaft or internal bore installation, and name the ring style. Preserve the exact reference rather than treating a similar-looking ring as an approved replacement.
2. Keep ring and mating dimensions distinct
State the nominal shaft or bore size and units. Add ring thickness and any specified free-state dimensions. These are separate fields; the installed mating diameter and the ring's free diameter must not be conflated.
3. Attach the groove drawing
Include the approved groove diameter, width, tolerances and relevant edge or radius details. This checklist does not prescribe dimensions: use the selected product data and controlled assembly drawing.
4. Flag service and access constraints
Identify the approved service requirements and installation/removal access. A load rating cannot be transferred from another manufacturer's ring or assumed from an apparently similar size. Seek responsible engineering review where design inputs are unresolved.
5. Define the order and acceptance scope
State material, hardness if required, finish, quantity by reference, inspection criteria, documents, packing and destination. Record any proposed substitution for approval before ordering.
Quotation information checklist
These fields describe order inputs, not a stock table or engineered acceptance criteria.
| Requirement | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Ring identity | Style, part reference, drawing number and revision |
| Mating part | External shaft or internal bore; nominal diameter and units |
| Groove | Diameter, width, tolerances and relevant edge details |
| Ring condition | Thickness, specified free-state measurements, material and finish |
| Review | Service requirement, access, acceptance documents and substitution approval |
| Order | Quantity by reference, packing and delivery country |
Example enquiry brief
Replace the bracketed fields with approved requirements and flag any unresolved item.
Ring style/reference: [reference]; revision: [revision]; installation: [shaft/bore]; mating diameter: [size/units]; groove: [controlled drawing]; ring thickness/material/finish: [requirements]; service/access: [approved requirements]; quantity: [by reference]; documents/packing: [requirements]; open questions: [list].
MOQ, production timing, material availability, finish and inspection scope are confirmed for the final specification. Product images illustrate appearance only; they do not establish dimensions, approvals or load ratings.
