Identify the retaining-ring form and its mating shaft or housing before requesting a price. A free-state ring measurement is not a substitute for the specified installed diameter and groove geometry. Final suitability must follow the approved assembly design.
External shaft circlips
Specify external shaft installation, the ring reference and nominal shaft diameter. Send the groove dimensions and tolerances, ring thickness, material and access requirements.

Internal bore circlips
Specify internal housing or bore installation. Include nominal bore size and the controlled groove diameter, width and related tolerances; do not substitute an external shaft ring of a similar apparent size.

E clips
Identify the E-clip part reference or drawing. Send the shaft and groove requirements, material, finish, quantity and any specified installation or removal constraints.
Drawing-defined ring requirements
For a non-standard profile, send the approved drawing, mating groove and acceptance requirements. Any alternative geometry or material is subject to explicit review, not automatic substitution.

Common purchasing questions
Are retaining rings the same as washers?
No. These retaining-ring enquiries concern parts specified for shaft or housing retention. A flat washer is a different product family.
Should I quote the free ring diameter or shaft/bore size?
Provide the exact ring reference together with the specified mating diameter and groove drawing. Include free-state ring dimensions only where the drawing or product reference requires them.
Does a ring photograph establish load capacity?
No. Ring and mating-groove requirements must be checked against the approved design and product-specific technical data. The display image does not establish a rating.
