Spherical Washers and Conical Seats

Identify spherical seat washers and matching conical seats by component form, mating surface and support footprint, rather than selecting a flat or beveled washer.

Product and application brief

This family uses a shaped washer and a matching seat to accommodate non-parallel clamping faces. Specify whether the enquiry concerns the spherical upper washer, the lower seat or both components. A seat with a similar bore is not automatically compatible with any curved washer.

Product forms and reference names

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Type C spherical washerGanter identifies C as the spherical washer. Specify its mating surface and selected counterpart, not just the bolt designation.
Type D seatThe D catalogue form is the regular-footprint dished seat. Confirm the supporting surface and full selected drawing.
Type G seatGanter describes an enlarged outer-footprint G seat, used particularly with elongated openings. Opening geometry and support remain application inputs.
Spherical-ended fixture nut arrangementThe JW Winco catalogue distinguishes a DIN 6330 type B spherical-ended nut mating with a D or G seat without a separate C washer. This is a specific arrangement, not permission to omit components from other assemblies.

A mating pair, not a single wedge

A beveled washer presents a fixed sloping bearing face. Here the shaped upper bearing part and lower seat form a different interface. Retain the selected pair identity, surface geometry and stack arrangement; neither matching bores nor the word self-aligning proves interchangeability.

Support footprint and clearance

Record a round hole, slot or larger opening and the available supporting area. Include clearance around the seat and the required assembled height. Do not substitute a wider seat without checking the actual drawing and application; outside diameter alone does not establish support adequacy.

DIN 6319 identity and edition status

DIN Media lists DIN 6319:2001-10, Spherical washers, conical seats, as withdrawn. The record also identifies its 2007 correction. Manufacturer catalogues still use DIN 6319 as a product-family label, but that is not evidence of a current standard, an approved replacement or FastenerBridge conformity. Agree the controlling edition or drawing before purchase; normative tables have not been consulted here.

Separate alignment from performance

The reference construction does not establish locking, sealing, spring travel, permissible angular movement, load rating or tightening torque for a proposed joint. Material, heat treatment, finish and installation requirements belong to the exact selected product and engineering specification, not a generic image.

Specification fields

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Component identityUpper washer, lower seat or complete pair; form C/D/G where applicable, exact catalogue identity or controlled drawing/revision.
GeometryBore, outside footprint, thickness, mating-profile details and assembled height with tolerances and units supplied by the selected specification.
Counterpart and stackBolt/stud and nut arrangement, upper bearing component and matching lower seat; identify any spherical-ended nut explicitly.
SupportOpening shape and size, available bearing area, surrounding clearance and non-parallel-face conditions.
Material and conditionMaterial, heat treatment, finish and surface requirements for each component separately; no default hardness or corrosion guarantee.
Application criteriaRequired alignment range, loads and assembly procedure from the responsible design or exact product instructions, not universal values.
Order and evidenceQuantity of single components or pairs, size list, drawings and requested inspection documents; actual supply and compliance remain to be confirmed.

Common product questions

Are these the same as beveled washers?

No. A single fixed wedge and a shaped washer/seat interface are different constructions. Choose by the mating geometry and application drawing, not visual similarity.

Is DIN 6319:2001-10 a current standard?

The official DIN Media record marks that edition withdrawn. Catalogue use of the number is identification only; agree the exact controlling document and do not infer replacement or conformity.

Can any spherical washer and conical seat be mixed?

No universal interchangeability is established. Specify the exact paired geometry and counterpart, and obtain product-specific alignment, loading and assembly requirements.
