Product and assembly brief
This selector covers a headed pin and separate collar which is swaged into the pin’s locking grooves. Identify the complete matched assembly, not a generic bolt and nut or ordinary blind rivet. Product geometry and joint acceptance require the selected drawing and setting specification.
Product forms and reference names
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Breakstem pin and collar | The selected design includes a breakneck and pulling tail; use its own pin, collar and setting specification. |
| Non-breakstem system | Some proprietary systems retain the pin tail. Do not infer this variant’s geometry or tooling from a breakstem example. |
| Drawing-defined collar variant | Identify collar body, flange, bore and orientation separately; one visible shape is not interchangeable with another. |
Pin and swage collar, not an ordinary rivet
Howmet describes a separate collar plastically formed into grooves on a pin. A blind rivet instead forms its own body around a pulled mandrel; a solid rivet forms its shank end. These are different selection mechanisms. The AI illustration shows uninstalled components only, not a qualified joint.
Locking grooves and tail regions
Titgemeyer’s original DeltaBolt component diagram separates the head, smooth shank, locking grooves, breakneck and pulling tail. Use these as identification concepts, not a generic dimensional drawing. The illustration’s annular grooves are not a helical screw thread; exact pitch, groove profile and tail form remain selected-design requirements.
Breakstem is not universal
STANLEY identifies NeoBolt as a non-breakstem two-piece system with its own fit-up feature and fastener-specific nose assemblies. A breakneck and discarded pintail are therefore not universal lockbolt requirements. Source brand names identify the evidence only; no affiliation, offered brand, equivalence or replacement-tool compatibility is asserted.
Grip, hole and access belong to the joint
Record the actual joined stack, prepared holes and access on both sides for the selected assembly. Specify the documented grip interval and length datum, without treating overall pin length as grip. Provide both component drawings and the installation specification; the family name alone does not confirm hole fit or tool access.
Matched setting and inspection
State the actual pin and collar references, collar orientation, setting tool and nose assembly, and approved process. Require selected-system inspection and qualification criteria. No generic setting force, stroke, torque, load, vibration resistance, sealing or maintenance-free performance is supplied here.
Technical references and purchasing boundary
DVS Media identifies DVS/EFB 3435-1 as a lockbolt-systems bulletin. The official DVS portal identifies 3435-2 as connection-calculation guidance with a defined scope. Neither listing proves conformity of an unspecified assembly or supplies a universal product dimension table. Actual materials, coatings, documents, supply scope and timing require drawing review and quotation confirmation.
Specification fields
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Assembly identity | Complete pin and collar references, controlled drawings/revisions, units and selected specification/edition if required. |
| Pin regions | Head and bearing seat, smooth shank, locking grooves, length datum, breakneck/pulling-tail or non-breakstem form and tolerances from selected drawing. |
| Collar | Body/flange/bore geometry, installation orientation, selected matching reference and required supplied condition. |
| Joined components | Layer materials, individual thicknesses, total stack, hole drawings/tolerances and access/clearance on both sides. |
| Grip and setting | Selected documented grip interval, tool/nose references and approved process or compatibility-review requirements. |
| Materials and acceptance | Separate pin/collar material and finish requirements, installed inspection criteria and requested qualification records. |
| Order package | Quantity by pin/collar or complete set, packing, traceability/documents, destination and unresolved decisions. |
Common product questions
Is a lockbolt the same as a blind rivet?
No. This page covers a separate pin and swaged collar. A structural blind fastener may use a different construction; select its exact reference.
Does every lockbolt break its pin tail?
No. Breakstem and non-breakstem systems exist. Identify the selected pin, collar and setting system rather than transferring one variant’s process.
Can any pulling tool set a lockbolt?
No generic fit is promised. Confirm the specific nose assembly, tool requirements, access and approved installation process for the selected assembly.
