Product and application brief
A two-leg staple has a crown joining two driven legs. This page covers ordinary selected flat-crown wire staple forms for industrial assembly, furniture and related material fastening, not office staples, a blanket structural approval or a universal fencing fastener. Identify the selected series and material stack before specifying geometry or installation.
Product forms and reference names
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Fine-wire staples | BECK 3 identifies fine-wire staples using separate leg thickness, leg width, inside crown and outside crown fields. The series name and wire section are required; gauge wording alone is incomplete. |
| Medium-wire narrow-crown staples | The selected SENCO L-family catalogue distinguishes crown, leg length, point, finish and glued collation. Narrow-crown wording does not establish an interchangeable tool interface. |
| Heavy-wire staple forms | The selected SENCO N-family catalogue lists heavier wire, a different crown family and taped collation. Heavy-wire is a catalogue distinction, not a generic joint-capacity rating. |
| Other application-specific staples | Carton-closing, fencing and rounded or special crown forms require their own structure and installation check. Do not silently substitute them for the flat-crown reference shown here. |
Crown and wire section are separate dimensions
Outside crown spans the external edges; inside crown describes the clear space between legs. Record the required measurement basis rather than treating both as the same width. Wire or leg width and thickness are independent cross-section fields. Match the selected drawing, crown bend and tool interface, not a generic gauge conversion.
Leg length, datum and point
Specify each leg length and its measuring datum from the selected product drawing. Confirm whether both legs are equal and which point geometry is required. Selected SENCO records distinguish chisel and cross-cut descriptions. Length and point are not chosen from a universal material-thickness or penetration formula.
Collation and magazine interface
Specify strip or other approved presentation, cohering medium, spacing and orientation with the exact tool make, model and fastener-series reference. The selected medium-wire reference is glued; the selected heavy-wire reference is taped. These examples do not establish universal collation rules or cross-brand compatibility.
Application and installed condition
Describe the material to be attached, supporting substrate, thickness stack, access and joint role. If the process drives into a receiving material or uses a supported clinching operation, provide the selected tooling and acceptance requirements separately. Check crown seating, leg behaviour and any retention requirement on the qualified assembly; no drive-pressure, load or corrosion-duration guarantee is stated.
Standards are not tool-system approval
The ASTM F1667/F1667M-21a catalogue identifies staples within its driven-fastener scope. Its public scope excludes most cohering-medium and relative-collation-orientation requirements except specified workmanship provisions. Obtain applicable normative type, edition, dimensions and tests separately, together with selected tool and collation documents. Catalogue scope is not FastenerBridge conformity evidence.
Specification fields
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Selected construction | Two-leg staple; flat or other controlled crown form, selected series or drawing revision. |
| Crown | Inside and outside widths with explicit datum, bend and clearance requirements. |
| Wire section | Leg width and thickness or controlled wire section; gauge label and its defining system. |
| Legs | Length and measurement basis for each leg; equal or special geometry. |
| Point | Selected chisel, cross-cut or other documented point form; no generic penetration claim. |
| Material and finish | Actual selected material, coating and exposure requirements, not inferred from silver appearance. |
| Collation and pack | Glued, taped or other selected presentation, spacing/orientation, strip and package quantity. |
| Tool and joint | Exact tool/fastener-series match, supporting substrate, attached material, access and installed-condition requirements. |
| Acceptance and supply | Controlled drawing, inspection and assembly qualification documents, quantity/destination; stock and delivery subject to confirmation. |
Common product questions
Is crown width the space between the legs?
Not necessarily. Catalogues may specify outside crown and inside crown separately. State which datum is required and confirm both against the controlled drawing.
Can a common gauge label identify a replacement?
No. Crown, wire width and thickness, leg length, point, collation and the documented tool interface must all match the selected system.
Are all two-leg staples suitable for fencing?
No. Ordinary furniture or wood-assembly staples do not establish a fencing application or its retention and exposure requirements. Confirm the application-specific construction.
Does the standard number prove stapler compatibility?
No. Normative staple requirements and collation/tool-system approval are separate. Obtain the selected type, drawing and tool documentation.
