Product and application brief
V-band and V-profile clamps connect mating flanged components. Their inward-facing profile engages the flange edges; this is not the same interface as a flat band compressing a flexible hose or a support clamp fixing a pipe to a structure. Identify the complete clamp and flange arrangement from a controlled drawing before requesting a quotation. A pipe diameter alone does not define this connection.
Product forms and reference names
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Cover-band V clamp | NORMA's original catalogue illustrates an outer cover band, inward profile segments and a closure. Its Breeze V-Band product is identified as a T-bolt form with three V-inserts. These are manufacturer examples, not FastenerBridge model or stock codes. |
| V-profile clamp construction | NORMA lists VPP and two-piece V2PP constructions separately from cover-band forms. Specify whether the profile itself forms the clamp body or separate retainers are carried by a strap; do not substitute based on a similar outer diameter. |
| Closure configurations | The original catalogue distinguishes STC straight-trunnion, QRC quick-release and spring-equipped QRC closures, plus single/double-closure arrangements. The selected part drawing determines the actual fastening mechanism and component set. |
Flange connection, not a hose or support clamp
The original NORMA method-of-operation drawing shows the clamp profile engaging the two flange halves. Closing the clamp acts through that interface to bring the flanges together. This describes a mechanism, not a universal axial force, working pressure or bolt torque. A hose-clamp T-bolt name by itself does not identify a V-profile flange connection.
Specify the mating section before the diameter
Send a section through both flange rims and the installed clamp. Mark the diameter datum, flange lip/contact geometry, profile angle and width, corner radii, axial stack and any gasket location. State which dimension is pipe outside diameter, flange outside diameter or clamp profile diameter. Similar nominal labels do not prove that two profiles fit or that another manufacturer's part is interchangeable.
Band, segments and closure are independent choices
Identify the number and arrangement of retainer segments, strap width and thickness where a cover band is used, segment end gaps and closure orientation from the selected design. Record the bolt, nut or trunnion and any latch or spring as separate components. A quick-release label is not permission to open the clamp while the joint is loaded or pressurized; operating and installation rules need the qualified product instructions.
Seal and service requirements need assembly evidence
Define whether the connection includes a gasket, metal-to-metal contact or another sealing arrangement. Provide media, requested operating conditions and the approved acceptance test as enquiry inputs. A V-shaped profile or photograph does not establish leak-tightness, pressure rating, temperature capability, cycle life, corrosion resistance or reuse eligibility. These depend on the specified clamp, flanges, seal and assembly qualification.
Specification fields
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Reference and drawing | Selected maker/part reference if applicable, controlled clamp and both flange drawings, revision and units; no blanket standard or brand equivalence assumed |
| Diameter datum | Pipe OD, flange OD and clamp/profile diameter identified separately with their tolerances and measurement condition |
| Mating profile | Section drawing, contact angle, axial width, lip height, corner radii and seating/engagement requirements |
| Flange stack and seal | Both mating rims, alignment requirements, gasket or sealing-face design and installed axial stack |
| Clamp body | Cover-band or profile-body form, retainer segments, band dimensions, segment gaps and permitted installed geometry |
| Closure | Single or multiple closures; T-bolt/trunnion or selected latch, bolt thread, nut, spring if present, orientation and installation access |
| Materials and surface | Separate designations for band, retainers and closure components, coating and documentation; one material label does not define every component |
| Assembly acceptance | Requested media/service requirements, product-specific installation instructions and required inspection or qualification evidence; no invented universal torque or load |
| Order controls | Quantity in pieces or complete sets, included components, packing, destination and requested documents; supply scope and timing require quotation confirmation |
Common product questions
Is a V-band clamp the same as a T-bolt hose clamp?
No. T-bolt describes a closure used on different products. A V-band flange clamp needs the mating V-profile/flange interface, while a hose band has a different receiving surface.
Can I order from the pipe diameter alone?
No. Provide the flange section and controlled clamp reference, identify diameter datums and include any seal and closure requirements.
Are all V-band clamps interchangeable?
No interchangeability is assumed. Profile, diameter datum, flange contact, closure, material and assembly requirements need comparison against the selected drawings.
Does quick release mean the clamp can be opened under pressure?
No. The closure name is not an operating-safety approval. Follow the selected product and system's isolation, installation and service instructions.
Does this page provide a universal pressure or tightening torque?
No. Exact assembly ratings, installation torque, reuse and qualification must come from the specified product and approved flange/seal design, not a generic appearance reference.
