Ear Clamps

Compare single-ear, two-ear and step-free inner-band clamps: band construction, assembled hose diameter and installation acceptance fields for quotation.

Product and application brief

An ear clamp is a band with a formed ear that is compressed during assembly. Identify the ear count and band or inner-contact construction separately: the same family name does not establish the same closure range, tool interface or hose connection. It is not a worm-drive screw clamp, a spring-band clamp or a V-profile flange clamp.

Product forms and reference names

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
One-piece single-ear and insert formsOetiker identifies 153 as a single-ear form and 154 with a separate pre-shaped insert. An insert is a distinct component, not proof that every single-ear clamp has a step-free inner surface.
Two-ear formsOetiker lists 101 and 151 separately as two-ear, one-piece constructions. Identify both ears and the selected part's closure requirements; do not treat two-ear as merely another name for a single-ear item.
Mechanical-interlock single earThe original 105/155 product identity specifies a mechanical interlock. Record the band-end joint, ear shape and exact selected reference, rather than assuming a welded or continuous ring.
Step-free inner-band formsOetiker's StepLess 117/167 describes a circumferential inner-contact design. StepLess is the maker's reference name; it does not establish brand affiliation or equivalent FastenerBridge supply. Inner-band geometry and ear count are separate selection fields.

Ear count and inner-band construction are separate

Specify one or two ears and whether the receiving surface is a formed band, an overlapping interlock, a separate insert or the selected step-free design. Send a drawing or controlled reference with the enquiry. A single generic photograph cannot distinguish all of these constructions.

Use assembled connection dimensions, not hose ID alone

Provide the hose and fitting drawings, assembled outside-diameter condition, required clamp location and tolerances. Distinguish hose inside diameter, unassembled outside diameter, clamp reference diameter and the selected part's documented closure range. State the receiving material and any reinforcement. These are procurement inputs, not a range guaranteed by this page.

Installation acceptance belongs to the selected product

Identify the required pincer or assembly tool, access direction, ear geometry, selected manufacturer's instructions and documented closing-force or closure-control method. A visibly pinched ear alone does not qualify the complete hose/fitting connection. This page gives no universal closing force, torque, jaw compatibility or installation sequence.

Keep ear clamps distinct from crimp rings and reusable closures

An ear provides a local formed closing feature; do not substitute an earless crimp ring, screw band or low-profile latch solely from a similar nominal diameter. Removal, reuse, sealing, pressure, temperature and service suitability require the exact selected clamp and qualified assembly evidence. No repeated-use guarantee is inferred from appearance.

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Exact identitySingle-ear/two-ear form, maker or drawing reference where applicable, revision, units and sample comparison; no blanket standard or brand equivalence
Band and jointBand width/thickness and edge requirements from selected drawing; mechanical interlock, one-piece form and any inner insert specified separately
Size conditionAssembled hose/fitting outside diameter and tolerance, clamp location, reference-size meaning and selected part's documented closure range
Ear geometryEar count, bridge/dimple and permitted closed condition from controlled specification; no inferred dimension from the reference image
Receiving componentsHose material/reinforcement, fitting drawing, barb or sealing geometry and intended assembly position
Material and finishRequired band and insert material designations separately, surface condition and documentation; original series material tables are not proof of supplied material
Installation controlsSelected tool/reference, jaw access, product-specific force or closure method and required verification; compatibility not assumed
Acceptance and serviceRequested media/operating conditions, approved connection inspection and qualification records; no universal pressure, torque, temperature or reuse rating
Order controlsQuantity, included insert/components, packing, destination and documents; actual supply scope and schedule require quotation confirmation

Common product questions

Are single-ear and two-ear clamps interchangeable?

No interchangeability is assumed. Compare ear count, band construction, closure range, receiving connection and installation controls against the exact drawing.

Does a single ear mean a step-free inside surface?

No. Ear count and inner-contact design are different features. Specify any insert or selected step-free construction separately.

Can I order from hose inside diameter alone?

No. Provide the fitting and hose details, assembled outside-diameter condition, clamp position and the documented size range for the selected part.

Can ordinary pliers install every ear clamp?

No tool compatibility is stated. The selected product instructions and approved assembly process determine jaws, access and closing controls.

Does a closed ear prove the connection is approved or reusable?

No. Visible closure is not the complete assembly qualification. Sealing, pressure, service conditions, removal and reuse remain product- and connection-specific requirements.
