Product and application brief
A T-slot nut provides an internal thread inside a defined T-shaped slot. The slot retains the nut body while the mating screw or stud engages its thread. Choose the slot interface first: matching a nominal screw thread alone does not establish that a nut fits the machine table or profile.
Product forms and reference names
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Machine-table stepped nut | A raised neck fits the narrow slot opening and a wider base fits the undercut. Ganter's DIN 508 catalogue identifies this family; order against the selected drawing and required edition. |
| Drop-in or swivelling form | Ganter separately lists rhombus and swivelling constructions. Their insertion path and body envelope differ from an end-loaded block; identify the exact part. |
| Profile-system nut | Use the exact extrusion system and slot cross-section. Profile-system catalogue codes are manufacturer identities, not a universal interchangeability rule. |
Slot width is not thread diameter
Specify the narrow slot opening, undercut width and depth, neck width and height, base width and overall height. Include corner radii and end access where relevant. A designation such as M8 identifies a thread, not a complete slot interface.
Thread engagement and bolt-end clearance
State diameter, pitch, thread hand and required fit. Identify whether the selected nut has a through thread, restricted thread or another end condition. Check the mating screw or stud projection against the slot floor and selected drawing; do not infer permitted engagement or tightening from the illustration.
Select the reference and edition
DIN Media identifies DIN 508:2002-06 as withdrawn and separately lists DIN 508:2026-08 as a draft. A draft is not a released replacement standard. Supplier catalogue use of DIN 508 does not settle the governing edition or confirm company conformity. Retain the specified drawing and edition for order review; no normative dimensions or tolerances are reproduced here.
Different from a T-bolt or wood-insert tee nut
A T-bolt has an external threaded stem and a retained head. A T-slot nut is internally threaded. A pronged insert called a tee nut for wood uses a different host interface; it is not the machine-slot product illustrated here.

| Nut geometry | Neck, base, height, radii and required clearances with units and controlled tolerances. |
| Mating thread | Thread designation, selected screw/stud and engagement or end-clearance requirements. |
| Order identity | Standard with edition, maker reference or drawing number and revision. |
| Material and quantity | Required material, finish, mechanical/inspection documents and quantity in pieces. |
Common product questions
Will the same thread fit every T-slot?
No. Thread size and slot geometry are separate selection fields.
Is the 2026 DIN 508 draft a released standard?
No. Keep draft identity separate from the agreed released specification or controlled drawing.
