Product and application brief
T-bolts have a transverse head and threaded shank, but the name covers different slot interfaces. Machine-table T-slot bolts and profile-system bolts require different head geometry. This page distinguishes those forms before the selected dimensions are specified.
Product forms and reference names
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Machine-table T-slot bolts | DIN 787 is a T-slot bolt reference. Ganter lists these alongside slots referenced to DIN 650; slot width and bolt thread are separate dimensions. |
| Profile-system T-bolts | Ganter GN 52b is a maker-series example for profile-system T-slot bolts. It is not a general DIN designation or a promise of compatibility with every aluminium profile. |
| Hammer-head / insert-and-turn forms | Identify the selected head drawing and insertion arrangement. A rotation-style head must be matched to the complete profile cavity, not only the visible slot opening. |
| Drawing-based T-head bolts | Define the transverse head, neck, shank and thread. Custom head sizes need a controlled drawing rather than a generic T-bolt label. |
Slot interface is more than thread size
Include slot opening width, internal cavity width/depth and the bolt-head or neck dimensions. A thread such as M12 does not identify the head or the required slot. Profile systems with similar openings can have different internal geometry.
A model notation example
Ganter lists the reference DIN 787-14-M12-50: its selected slot-width dimension is 14 mm, thread M12 and length 50 mm. This is a manufacturer catalog identification example, not our stock code or proof that another T-bolt will fit the same slot.
Head form, material and thread length
Specify head length, width, thickness and any neck or anti-rotation feature, plus total length and threaded portion. State the required material or property class and finish separately. A catalog photo is an appearance reference, not a slot-fit verification or installation instruction.

Common product questions
Are all T-bolts DIN 787 parts?
No. DIN 787 identifies one T-slot bolt form; profile-system and drawing-based T-head parts are separate constructions.
Does M12 define the slot width?
No. Thread diameter and slot width are separate dimensions. The head and profile cavity must also be identified.
Is GN 52b a universal standard?
No. It is a Ganter manufacturer series reference. Compatibility requires the selected geometry and profile specification.
