Plastic Plugs and Frame Fixings

Distinguish a plastic expansion plug from a long-shaft frame fixing, then identify substrate, paired screw and the complete fixture stack.

Product and application brief

Plastic plugs and frame fixings use a selected molded sleeve with a specified screw and substrate interface. A long-shaft frame fixing is not simply a short plug with a longer interchangeable screw. This page separates those construction choices and the information needed for an enquiry.

Construction choices

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Plastic expansion plugA short molded sleeve expands through its documented screw interface. Four-way expansion is one original-maker construction, not a universal requirement.
Long-shaft frame fixingA longer sleeve bridges the fixture and interfaces with the base material through its specified expansion section and paired screw.
Head and screw arrangementRim and head form, screw geometry and fixture seating must be identified together. Similar sleeve diameter does not establish interchangeability.

Substrate before nominal size

Provide the exact solid, perforated or aerated base material, its condition and the fixture geometry. Identify non-load-bearing coatings or layers separately. A plug described for one substrate must not be assumed suitable for another, or transferred to a thin hollow-wall board.

Plug and screw as a selected combination

Identify the sleeve reference, screw type, diameter, thread, length and head plus attachment thickness. Use the selected part documentation for preparation, engagement and installation. No generic hole, embedment or screw-length formula is provided.

Frame fixing stack and expansion section

Record the fixture stack, long sleeve, expansion section and selected screw as one connection. Original-maker frame constructions can use different expansion-zone arrangements. Their geometry and evaluated combinations are not a general replacement specification.

Documents and responsible selection

Provide any required project evaluation, installation and inspection documents for the exact fixing combination. Maker approvals identify their particular systems, not generic FastenerBridge product compliance. Suitability must be reviewed for the connection; no universal load, torque, tool compatibility or redundant-fixing qualification is asserted.

Common product questions

Is any screw of the same diameter compatible?

No. The documented sleeve and screw interface controls the selected combination.

Is a long-shaft fixing a plasterboard cavity fixing?

Not by name or length. The host interface and retention mechanism must be identified separately.

Does a maker example mean our part has that approval?

No. Evaluation and conformity claims require exact supplied-part and system documentation.
