Hollow-Wall and Plasterboard Fixings

Identify board material, thickness and cavity geometry before comparing metal cavity, toggle and plasterboard-specific fixing constructions.

Product and application brief

Hollow-wall and plasterboard fixings use a board or cavity interface that differs from a solid-concrete anchoring interface. This page distinguishes construction families for an enquiry; it does not authorize a fixing location, load or installation method.

Construction choices

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Metal cavity sleeveA selected metal sleeve has expanding arms that bear behind the board. Its grip must correspond to the documented board thickness and setting arrangement.
Toggle or spring constructionA bearing element opens behind the panel. Identify the actual opening mechanism, hole requirements and free cavity space.
Plasterboard-specific threaded fixingA coarse external thread engages the specified board. The accepted board type, screw and preparation are product-specific, not common to every drywall plug.

Board and cavity definition

State board material, thickness and number of layers, cavity depth, rear obstructions and attachment geometry. Gypsum plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard, plywood and other panels are not interchangeable substrates. Establish concealed-service and installation constraints through the responsible project review.

Grip, clearance and mating screw

Specify the exact construction, board grip range and clearance for expansion or toggle movement. Identify the mating screw or hook, thread, engagement and attachment thickness. Matching thread alone does not establish suitability.

Selection and installation documents

Use the selected part's current substrate and installation documentation. Preparation and setting procedures differ among a metal cavity sleeve, a spring toggle and a threaded board fixing. No generic hole diameter, tightening torque, setting-tool compatibility or reuse capability is provided.

Not a hollow-core slab anchor

A plasterboard cavity interface is not the same as a hollow-core concrete slab with voids, webs and prestressing constraints. The existing slab-anchor page remains under Concrete Anchors and is not replaced by this family.

Performance and supply confirmation

Provide the intended connection requirements and any required evaluation or inspection documents for the exact part. Responsible project review controls suitability. Images, family names and maker examples do not establish FastenerBridge load ratings, fire qualification, approval, inventory or supplied models.

Common product questions

Can a concrete anchor be substituted in plasterboard?

Not on the basis of a similar size or name. The substrate and retention mechanism require a separately reviewed fixing.

Is every cavity fixing reusable?

No. Any removal or reuse claim must be verified for the exact construction and application.

Does one hole size apply to these three constructions?

No. Hole and preparation requirements come from the selected part and substrate documents.
