Washer-Head Bolts and Integral Bearing Discs

Square-head integral-washer bolt enquiries defining the one-piece bearing disc, machine thread, length and end geometry, mating assembly and selected drawing.

Product and assembly brief

This selector concerns a square external head formed continuously with a broad circular washer-like bearing disc and a machine-threaded shank. The integral disc is not a separate retained washer. It is distinct from the existing hex-flange, domed timber-fin and SEMS selectors; a catalogue name alone does not identify the complete ordered part.

Product forms and reference names

Choice or fieldWhat to identify
Square-head integral-washer formPortland Bolt describes a square head and washer-like bearing surface made as one piece. Specify the square head, circular disc and their transitions from the selected controlled drawing; no maker dimensions are transferred here.
Separate washer assemblyA bolt with an independent loose or captive washer is not this one-piece construction. Identify the separate components and whether a retained washer can move; use the SEMS selector for that different assembly.
Hex-flange alternativeThe existing hex-flange detail concerns a hexagonal head and defined flange face. Similar broad bearing appearance does not establish the same head, envelope or specification.
Selected end geometryThe maker describes a semi-cone end. Record the actual end profile and drawing; this is not a self-drilling tip or universal installation instruction.

Square head and integral bearing disc

Specify head width across flats, height and corners separately from disc diameter, thickness, underside profile and head-to-shank transitions. The illustration conveys generic appearance, not tolerances, forming-process evidence or a dimensional model.

Receiving material and assembly contents

Identify the actual bearing component, hole and recess, material and thickness, clearance and full mating stack. List head-side and nut-side washers or plates individually. Do not infer permission to omit every washer from the presence of an integral disc.

Thread, length datum and end

State metric or inch thread system, diameter, pitch and fit, the controlled length datum, threaded and plain-shank lengths, and end requirements. A maker-specific extended thread or semi-cone example does not define all washer-head bolts.

Utility context is not qualification

The original maker discusses pole-line crossarm hardware. Any such enquiry requires the controlled component and assembly drawing, acceptance and installation documents and responsible engineering review. No electrical-service suitability, connection capacity, wood-crushing resistance, torque or tool compatibility is provided here.

Standard identity and edition boundaries

IEEE identifies C135.80-2023 as active and describes inch-based zinc-coated ferrous washer-head bolts within its overhead-line fastener scope, excluding metric bolts. Its official page also lists a proposed corrigendum. The historical C135.38-1987 entry is withdrawn and C135.80-2012 is inactive and superseded; these names do not certify a supplied part or establish automatic equivalence.

Material, finish and supply evidence

Define the actual material/property specification, coating, mating-thread fit and inspection requirements separately. Maker production ranges, grades, domestic origin, inventory and manufacturing processes are not FastenerBridge supply facts. Final commercial and assembly requirements follow the confirmed drawing and quotation.

Common product questions

Is the washer a separate retained component?

Not in the one-piece form described here. A loose or captive washer assembly requires a different component specification.

Can the existing hex-flange bolt be substituted?

Do not assume so. Compare head drive, integral bearing geometry, receiving clearance and the complete controlled specification.

Does the integral disc authorize removal of all assembly washers?

No. Confirm the required head-side and nut-side components against the actual joint drawing. This page does not provide an installation or utility qualification.
