Pin Specification & Drawing Checklist

Prepare a pin quotation with the correct construction, dimensions, mating holes, retaining arrangement, material, finish and order requirements.

What to send for quotation

Send the pin drawing and the relevant mating-part details as one enquiry package. Mark missing information for confirmation rather than replacing a controlled requirement with an assumed size or fit.

1. Name the construction

State dowel, clevis, slotted spring, coiled spring or split/cotter pin. Include the exact standard and edition or drawing revision. Similar names and nominal sizes do not make different pin designs equivalent.

2. Define how length is measured

Specify the drawing-defined overall and usable lengths. Include head, shoulder, cross-hole position, chamfer and end details where applicable. Keep units and tolerances attached to the relevant dimensions.

3. Include the mating holes

Supply hole dimensions, engagement length and the approved fit requirements. For spring pins, distinguish the pin's specified free-state condition from the mating-hole dimensions; do not choose a hole size from the display image.

4. Describe retention and installation

Identify any matching clip or split pin, access limitations and required installation process. Assembly changes must be reviewed by the responsible designer before being treated as an accepted substitute.

5. Close the commercial brief

List quantities by drawing and size, required material and finish, inspection documents, sample-review requirements, packing and destination. Separate confirmed requirements from unresolved questions.
