What to send for quotation
A structural bolt enquiry needs more than A325 or A490 in the subject line. Send the governing specification, exact designation, dimensions and complete assembly requirements. We review the quotation against that brief; a page title is not a certificate of conformity.
What does this reference cover?
ASTM F3125/F3125M addresses high-strength structural bolts and assemblies. Familiar references include A325 and A490 heavy hex bolts and F1852 and F2280 twist-off assemblies. Identify the exact designation required by the project rather than treating the names as interchangeable.
Is the newest edition always required?
No. Use the edition called out in the contract or approved project specification. An older drawing may use a legacy reference; send that drawing with the enquiry and flag any proposed change for approval. Our quotation should state the agreed reference, not silently update it.
Can a metric property class replace A325 or A490?
Not automatically. A nominal strength comparison does not settle dimensions, assembly requirements, installation method or documentation. If an alternative is acceptable, send the approval criteria and have the responsible project reviewer confirm the change before ordering.
Separate component supply from complete sets
State whether you need bolts alone or matched bolt, nut and washer sets. List each component reference and the number of washers per set. Keep coating and installation requirements attached to the whole assembly brief, not just the bolt line.
Compare quotation exceptions, not price alone
Ask each offer to identify any deviation from the specified edition, assembly, finish or inspection scope. Record unresolved items before order confirmation. Do not infer installation torque, pretension or approved coating from a photograph or this purchasing guide.
Order information checklist
This table lists quotation inputs, not guaranteed availability or engineering acceptance criteria.
| Requirement | Information to provide |
|---|---|

| Size | Unit system, diameter, length and thread requirement |
| Components | Bolt-only or complete sets; nut and washer references and quantities |
| Surface | Specified finish and permitted treatment for the assembly |
| Evidence | Order-specific tests, identification and traceability requirements |

Consult the edition required by your project. The linked ASTM 2025 listing is historical and points to the active edition; the RCSC 2020 document is a dated reference, not a claim that it governs every project. This guide does not reproduce a standard or provide installation approval.
