Product and application brief
A cross dowel barrel nut has a cylindrical body and an internal threaded interface across the body for a mating bolt approaching the host joint at a right angle to the dowel axis. Its bore position and alignment matter independently of thread size. It is distinct from an axial coupling nut or a pronged tee nut.
Construction choices
| Choice or field | What to identify |
|---|---|
| Cross-dowel construction | Identify cylindrical body diameter and length, transverse threaded hole location and the mating bolt approach. |
| Alignment feature | Accu identifies a cross-slotted alignment feature. Confirm the actual selected feature and orientation rather than assuming every construction has the same slot. |
| Threaded hole arrangement | Specify hole position and whether the selected bore is through or blind; do not infer these details from a generic image. |
Host bore and bolt approach
Provide the assembly drawing showing the dowel bore, host material and thickness, mating bolt passage and thread centreline. Alignment and access must be reviewed for the actual joint; the product name alone does not determine a host-hole dimension.
Body and thread definition
Record body diameter and length, threaded-hole position from a defined datum, hole arrangement and alignment feature. Specify thread system, diameter, pitch or TPI, hand, fit and mating bolt reference separately.
Not a coupling nut or tee nut
A coupling nut joins coaxial threaded components through an axial internal thread. A pronged tee nut uses a flanged, pronged host-hole interface. A cross dowel barrel nut instead requires alignment of its transverse threaded interface with the approaching bolt; these constructions are not automatic substitutes.

| Threaded interface | Thread designation, hand, fit, through/blind arrangement and hole position from a defined datum. |
| Joint | Host material, bore, thickness, bolt passage, approach, access and clearances. |
| Order | Material, finish, quantity, destination, packing and required inspection documents. |
Common product questions
Is a cross dowel the same as a coupling nut?
No. The transverse mating interface and cylindrical host arrangement are different from an axial coupling nut.
Do all cross dowels share a slot and hole position?
No universal arrangement is assumed. Specify the selected part or drawing, including alignment feature and bore location.
Does this page provide joint strength or tightening torque?
No. Performance and installation requirements need the selected product, joint design and supporting documents.
