What to send for quotation
A property class alone is not an order specification. If your project calls for ISO 898-1, send the class, required edition and separate dimensional product reference or controlled drawing. We use those inputs to clarify the supply scope before quotation.
What does ISO 898-1 address?
ISO 898-1 concerns mechanical and physical properties of specified carbon-steel and alloy-steel bolts, screws and studs within its scope. It is not a general stainless-steel specification or a complete specification for every fastener family.
Does 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 describe the complete part?
No. A property class does not supply the head geometry, overall length, thread length or coating requirement. Pair the specified class with the dimensional reference and all required order details. These examples are enquiry terms, not a claim that every class is available for every product.
Can the same reference be used for nuts and washers?
Do not use this bolt, screw and stud reference as the complete requirement for mating nuts or washers. List their own specified standards, grades, dimensions and finish separately, then review compatibility as an assembly.
Does the class establish corrosion resistance or torque?
No. ISO 898-1 does not define corrosion resistance or torque/clamp-force performance. State the intended environment and approved finish separately. Installation settings require the actual assembly and validated instructions; this guide does not supply torque values.
How should a replacement or alternative be handled?
Provide the original drawing and required acceptance criteria. Record differences in class, geometry, thread and finish instead of assuming a higher number is always an acceptable replacement. Secure the responsible reviewer’s approval before changing a controlled requirement.
Order information checklist
This table lists quotation inputs, not guaranteed availability or engineering acceptance criteria.
| Requirement | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Mechanical reference | ISO 898-1 and project-required edition; specified property class |
| Dimensional reference | Product standard or drawing, head form and overall length |
| Thread | System, nominal diameter, pitch, tolerance and threaded length |
| Assembly | Mating nut / washer references and quantities |
| Surface and environment | Approved finish and any separate corrosion requirements |
| Evidence and order | Inspection scope, traceability, quantity and destination |
