Product and application brief
This entry covers identification of tube-based rivets and related one-piece hollow forms. A tube-based part has a hollow shank rather than the short blind tail cavity of a semi-tubular rivet. Confirm the bore path, manufactured head and production form from the selected drawing; the word tubular alone is not an exact model.
Product forms and reference names
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Tube-cut rivet — DIN 7340:2011-03 | Official identity for rivets cut from tube. The catalogue lists forms A and B and a nominal-diameter scope of 1–10 mm. This scope is not our stock list. Specify the actual form and drawing rather than choosing only the standard number. |
| One-piece drawn hollow rivet — DIN 7339:2011-02 | A separate official identity for hollow rivets drawn from strip. Do not treat a strip-drawn construction as automatically equivalent to a tube-cut part. Confirm the full section and head profile. |
| Maker-specific head and wall options | ETTINGER describes its tube-based range with a cylindrical shank and constant wall. Maker head descriptions or additional forms need their own drawing; they are not proof that every option lies within the cited DIN scope. |
| Drawing-defined tubular part | Define tube, head, bore path and length on a controlled drawing for special geometry. A two-piece body-and-cap fastener, threaded insert or pull-mandrel blind rivet needs a separate product identification. |
Through bore versus partial cavity
For the illustrated tube-based form, the bore is open through the head and tail. A semi-tubular part instead has a partial cavity and remaining solid shank. Other hollow constructions can have different sections; obtain the drawing rather than inferring every opening from the product name.
Outside diameter is not enough
Outside diameter, bore and wall thickness are related but distinct purchasing fields. State which dimensions and tolerances control the part and any specified wall uniformity or concentricity. Do not derive approved tolerances from a picture or use one nominal wall for every diameter.
Head form and length datum
Record head diameter, height, bearing face or seat and the length measurement convention. DIN 7340 form letters and maker head names should be resolved against the actual reference drawing. English catalogue translations can differ; head wording alone is not a geometry match.
Blank and assembled joint requirements
Specify the uninstalled blank separately from joined thickness, mating hole and finished formed-tail acceptance. Karl Enghofer’s original sheet separates typical part dimensions from application dimensions; these values are not a universal clinch allowance, installation instruction or FastenerBridge specification. No setting-force or load guarantee is supplied here.
Material, finish and tube condition
Provide the exact material designation and condition, permitted surface treatment and any required tube or forming documentation. Tube manufacture, drawn-strip manufacture and a superficially similar turned part are not automatically interchangeable. Production capability and conformity need the agreed specification and evidence.

Common product questions
Is a tubular rivet the same as a semi-tubular rivet?
Not necessarily. The tube-based form shown has an open through bore; a semi-tubular part has a partial tail cavity. Specify the section because catalogue terminology can overlap.
Are DIN 7340 and DIN 7339 interchangeable?
No equivalence is established here. DIN 7340 identifies tube-cut rivets; DIN 7339 identifies one-piece hollow rivets drawn from strip. Check construction, geometry and the selected specification.
Can the outside diameter define wall thickness or installation allowance?
No. Provide wall and bore requirements separately, with blank length and joint acceptance. This overview does not prescribe universal wall values, clinch allowances or setting forces.
