Product and application brief
A semi-tubular rivet has a partial axial cavity at the tail opposite its manufactured head. The rest of the shank remains solid. Identify the head and cavity together rather than ordering simply a hollow rivet. The uninstalled part and its finished clinched joint need separate specifications.
Product forms and reference names
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Pan head — DIN 6791:2012-05 | Official catalogue identity for semi-tubular pan-head rivets. Its stated nominal-diameter scope is 1.6–10 mm, not our availability or stock list. Full dimensions and tolerances require the selected specification. |
| Lining rivet — DIN 7338:2011-03, form B | This reference is for brake and clutch lining rivets; the official overview distinguishes A solid, B semi-tubular and C hollow constructions. Form B is not a general substitute for DIN 6791 or an application approval. |
| Oval, truss, flat or countersunk maker forms | Universal Rivet lists these head options in its own semi-tubular range. Maker names and drawings identify geometry, not equivalence to a DIN form or FastenerBridge brand affiliation. |
| Drawing-defined semi-tubular part | Specify the controlled head, cavity, shank and length drawing when the required geometry does not match a selected reference. Do not assign a DIN number from appearance alone. |
Partial cavity versus other rivet constructions
The blind tail cavity distinguishes this part from a solid shank. A through-hollow tube and a separate-mandrel blind rivet are different constructions. Some catalogues use tubular terminology loosely; resolve that ambiguity with a section drawing and hole depth.
Cavity geometry is an ordering dimension
Include cavity opening diameter, depth, bottom profile and their specified tolerances. Confirm the remaining solid portion of the shank from the drawing. A common head outline or equal outside diameter does not prove that two tail cavities match.
Head style and blank length
State the manufactured head profile and bearing or countersunk seat, then identify the length measurement datum. Under-head and overall lengths are not interchangeable across all head forms. Blank length and total joined thickness must remain separate fields.
Joint and forming requirements
The hollow tail is formed during clinching. Define joined stack, hole, tooling access and finished-tail acceptance separately from the blank. No universal cavity ratio, clinch allowance, setting force or load rating is provided here. A pivoting joint needs its own clearance and assembly requirements; the product name alone does not guarantee motion.
Material and finish selection
Specify the exact material designation, condition and coating. Universal Rivet describes steel, stainless steel, brass and aluminium variants in its own range; these examples are not confirmed FastenerBridge production qualifications. The selected drawing and material evidence determine suitability.
Specification fields
| Product form / field | Reference and distinguishing details |
|---|---|
| Reference and head | DIN designation and edition, maker drawing or controlled custom revision; head profile and seating geometry. |
| Shank | Nominal diameter, tolerance and any shoulder or stepped features. |
| Tail cavity | Opening diameter, depth, bottom form and drawing-defined tolerances; remaining solid section. |
| Blank length | Length, measurement datum and tolerance; separate joined thickness and forming allowance. |
| Material and finish | Exact alloy/designation, condition, coating and surface requirements. |
| Joint acceptance | Joined stack, mating hole, access, clinched-tail geometry and specified inspection or assembly tests. |
| Order definition | Quantity with units, drawing revision, required inspection documents and packing. |
Common product questions
Is a semi-tubular rivet the same as a blind rivet?
No. A semi-tubular part has a partial cavity at its tail, not a separate pull mandrel. Select the actual construction and joint process.
Are DIN 6791 and DIN 7338 B interchangeable?
Not by name alone. DIN 6791 identifies a pan-head semi-tubular family; DIN 7338 addresses lining rivets and distinguishes several forms. Check the selected drawing and application requirements.
Can I order by shank diameter and length only?
That leaves important geometry unresolved. Include head form, cavity diameter and depth, length datum, material and the finished joint requirements.
