Undercut Anchors

Undercut concrete anchors: distinguish preformed-hole and self-undercutting systems, preset and through-set forms, threaded connections and product-specific procurement information.

Product and application brief

Undercut anchors are post-installed mechanical concrete fasteners that engage an undercut in the drilled hole by mechanical keying. Their anchoring geometry is distinct from an ordinary friction-expansion sleeve or a concrete screw thread. Product systems differ in how the undercut is made and how the anchor is positioned. This page covers concrete anchoring assemblies, not small undercut attachments for stone or facade panels. The illustration shows a generic sleeve-and-cone appearance, not a branded part, installation drawing or actual production evidence.

Product forms and reference names

Product form / fieldReference and distinguishing details
Preformed undercut-hole systemfischer identifies FZA as a ZYKON undercut-anchor family: its FZUB drill forms the undercut and the FZE Plus setting tool presses the sleeve over a cone. These are system-specific references, not universal tooling codes.
Self-undercutting preset formHilti identifies HDA-P as a preset undercut anchor with self-undercutting construction. Keep the complete system reference and installation documentation; do not assume all undercut anchors form their own undercut.
Self-undercutting through-set formHilti identifies HDA-T as a through-set undercut anchor. Preset and through-set variants are different product arrangements, not interchangeable names for any sleeve-and-cone assembly.
Assessment-document referenceEOTA EAD 330232-02-0601 addresses mechanical fasteners for use in concrete and distinguishes undercut fasteners (UC). An EAD is an assessment basis, not a product approval or company certification.

Identify the complete assembly

An external connection thread does not identify the complete anchoring body. Record the sleeve, cone or other anchoring-element arrangement, connection end and any specified nut and washer. Component geometry belongs to the selected system; do not assemble a substitute by matching only the visible thread diameter. A generic appearance illustration cannot establish component compatibility.

Preformed versus self-undercutting

Specify whether the system uses a separately formed undercut or creates its undercut during the specified setting operation. Retain the exact drill and setting-tool references from that system's documentation. Do not combine hole geometry from one variant with tooling or setting instructions from another. This page identifies procurement differences and does not prescribe installation, drilling depths or setting force.

Preset versus through-set

Identify the required installation arrangement together with fixture-hole geometry, fixture thickness and access for the specified tooling. These fields should be copied from the controlled drawing or selected product schedule and labelled separately from connection-thread size and body length. A matching nominal thread is not evidence that a preset assembly can replace a through-set form.

Keep assessment and production evidence separate

If a project requires an ETA or another assessment, obtain documents covering the exact actual product, substrate and intended configuration. A named manufacturer's approval, fire or seismic statement is not evidence about FastenerBridge parts. Actual material, coating, dimensions, tolerances and production documentation remain confirmation items where not supplied; no capacity or torque is inferred from the appearance.

Common product questions

Is an undercut anchor the same as a wedge or sleeve anchor?

No. Undercut keying is a distinct anchoring mechanism. A similar external threaded end or nut cannot establish the internal geometry, installation requirements or interchangeability.

Do all undercut anchors need a separately made undercut?

No. There are separately preformed-hole systems and self-undercutting systems. Identify the exact selected product and its tooling rather than applying one family's method to every anchor.

Do third-party model names or an EAD establish our compliance?

No. They help identify product families and assessment scope only. Actual product-specific documents and project requirements must be verified separately; branded references are not supply, affiliation or approval claims.
